FLEXIGRID
Flexigrid, as its name implies, is a flexible management tool designed to heighten awareness of our individual beliefs and values. "To see ourselves as others see us". For many people that would be a revelation, but the technique we have developed goes even further ....... to see ourselves as a we really are! In psychological terms this is "raising perceptual awareness". Flexigrid is a leading edge measurement tool designed to provide it's users with in-depth insight into their own processes. The computer based technique is a powerful way of getting to know yourself in greater depth. This may sound complex and somewhat daunting, but we have rarely found a user who has not described the experience as enlightening and enjoyable. Once perceptual awareness has been raised there is a great deal of evidence to show that changing attitudes, actions and performance follows more easily than most managers would have dreamed possible.
WHO ARE WE?
Terry Keen Ph. D is one of the originators of the Flexigrid and worked on computer programming with Finn Tschudi from Norway. Terry has used the instrument in his management consulting practice in England and Internationally. Applications include performance appraisal, team building, executive performance raising and counseling, and improving effectiveness of Board of Directors. Flexigrid was also used to assist a major car manufacturer in Europe to name a newly designed model.
Helen Turnbull, MPS, is President of Human Facets, an Organizational Development company based in the USA. She specializes in all aspects of Organizational Development and providing strategic direction and change management approaches to diversity issues in the workplace and has conducted exciting work with Flexigrid in the domain of Diversity Awareness and skills building.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Flexigrid can be administered with individuals or groups, by interview, through interaction with a computer, or using a "pencil and paper" technique. Clients will have agreed with us the area to be investigated, such as "improving the performance of the Board of Directors" or "identifying diversity issues which need resolving". We help the client to determine the "elements" or key representative items for the area under investigation and then use these to complete the matrix, with each of the people whom the client has identified as the recipient group. We then use the computer to analyze the results and provide a "eureka" experience, presenting the client with a reliable and valid statement of their position relative to the issue being measured.
